The Tucson City Council's Planning Commission is considering a proposal for electric vehicle readiness requirements for new apartments and commercial developments. If approved, new commercial property developments would be required to devote up to 15% of their parking spaces to a combination of charging stations and EV-ready power outlets depending on the size of the business.

PDSD staff presented a proposed commercial parking code amendment at a Planning Commission public hearing on Wednesday, March 2, 2022. The code amendment would require EV charging as part of new commercial parking lots, and expand eligibility for the Individual Parking Plan to restaurants and bars as well as affordable housing.
