Wollongong, NSW works toward its long-term emissions goals with a pilot of kerbside EV chargers

Wollongong's Climate Change Mitigation Plan 2023-2030 calls for net-zero emissions by 2050. A one-year pilot with Endeavour Energy and EVX Australia tests the impacts of kerbside vehicle charging on carbon emissions. Five locations throughout the council were selected based on grid and local attraction proximity. Each location features a pole-mounted charger and two dedicated parking spots. EV owners can recharge their batteries for AU$0.50 per kilowatt hour.

Detroit, MI introduces the first wireless EV charging roadway in the United States

Detroit worked with the Michigan Department of Transportation and Electreon on installing innovative road technology. Inductive coils underneath 14th Street wirelessly transfer electricity to passing electric vehicles with Electreon receivers. This installation runs through the Michigan Central Innovation District with a Ford E-Transit van used for the first test drive. Once completed, a one-mile stretch of wireless charging road will be used to test the technology's effectiveness.

Seattle, WA Heavy Duty Truck Electrification Incentive Pilot reduces emissions from freight

Nine percent of Seattle's carbon emissions are generated by trucks driving to and from the port. This program provides instant rebates of up to 40% during all-electric freight truck purchases by selected operators. A $1.7 million incentive fund covers costs up to $180,000 per truck, reducing the financial burden of decarbonization on drivers and operators. Increased electric truck use supports the city's goal of 30% zero-emission deliveries by 2030.

Perth, WA expands its sustainable transit offerings during e-scooter pilot with Bird and Neuron

Perth selected Bird and Neuron as licensed operators for its two-year e-scooter trial. Users aged 16 and older can hire e-scooters through the operators' mobile apps at 80 locations. This pilot differs from other Australian trials by requiring the return of e-scooters to designated parking spots. E-scooters are limited to 25 km/h on roads and 10 km/h on sidewalks. Geofencing technology prevents scooter use in three high-traffic pedestrian areas.

Milton Keynes Council, GB collaborates with Kerbo on pilot of on-street EV charging technology

Trial participants in the Oxley Park district without off-street parking benefit from safe EV charging. Kerbo's system includes a narrow polymer channel built into the sidewalk between the user's front door and their on-street parking spot. The charging cable rests underneath a self-sealing lid for protection from pedestrians and the elements during operation. A successful pilot may lead to expanded use of Kerbo, thus decreasing charging costs and barriers to EV ownership.
