Wellington Regional Council partnered with Bicycle Junction to launch a cargo bike trial competition. Participating families will submit a story and a photo or video of their cargo bike experience. Wellington Regional Council converted over 50 Metlink trolley buses to battery power using a $763,000 grant from the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority. The electric public transport fleet is powered by renewable energy generated within the Wellington region.

Wellington Regional Council, NZ partnered with NIWA to trial new water quality monitoring technology
Wellington Regional Council partnered with the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) to trial new technology, stormwater bottles and small gel discs, for monitoring water quality. The stormwater bottles capture water samples when streams rise to a preselected level and the small gel discs are able to absorb dissolved metals. This technology was expected to help the Council locate contaminants and gauge water quality at a lower cost than existing techniques.

Wellington Regional Council, NZ introduced a new warning system to reduce inappropriate parking
Wellington Regional Council introduced measures to reduce inappropriate parking at its Park and Ride carparks. The Council posted signs and conducted an awareness campaign to inform residents that Park and Ride carparks are limited to only individuals using bus or rail services. Anyone violating this rule after receiving a warning ticket is subject to a fine of up to $350 and having their vehicle clamped or removed. The Council designed these measures to reduce demand on the carparks.

The map specifically details the impact of a large local flood which has a one percent chance of occurring within any year. The Wellington Region Flood Hazards Map is modeled on surveys of critical areas, analysis of historic flood photographs, and local knowledge.
