Venice is testing rewards-based mobility apps as part of the Toyota Mobility Foundation Sustainable Cities Challenge to encourage residents and commuters to shift away from car use toward low-carbon options like public transport, cycling, and multi-modal journeys. The initiative focuses on positive incentives and gamification rather than restrictions or new infrastructure, with two finalist apps currently in pilot testing: Andemo (by Factual Consulting), and Bella Mossa (by BetterPoints).

Venice is piloting rewards-based mobility apps that use incentives and gamification to shift travel behaviour, reduce congestion and encourage public transport and cycling during peak tourism seasons.

Early data from the pilots shows promising results, including Bella Mossa recording over 52,000 sustainable trips covering nearly 135,000 km, with 61% of surveyed users replacing car journeys (avoiding an estimated 32,000 car trips and saving 12 tonnes of CO₂), and many drivers reducing their weekly car use.
