Gent (Gand) [Ghent], VOV informs visually impaired commuers about transit disruptions with new app

Municipal officials and project partner District09 developed the app using De Lijn transit data. Commuters enter their phone numbers and receive real-time texts when their routes are detoured or disrupted. A planned update in autumn 2023 will support user reports of sidewalk obstructions. The mobile app is part of the city's Open Services project, which designs digital services accessible by other cities and third-party developers.

Developers included a trip planning tool that emphasizes accessible forms of transit between downtown addresses. This mobile-friendly interactive map was designed for integration into local business and organization websites.

Tampa, FL and Lazarillo evaluate the effectiveness of app-based assistive maps in public spaces

Tampa and Lazarillo mapped Julian B. Lane Park, Old City Hall, and the Municipal Office Building for the 15-month pilot. Residents with visual impairments or limited mobility download the Lazarillo mobile app for audio assistance. This guidance includes step-by-step directions between locations, points of interest, and potential obstacles. A small group of residents tested the assistive maps for accessibility and accuracy before a public rollout.

East Lothian Council, GB and SEStran develop new mobile app for seamless regional trip planning

The GOSEStran app relies on real-time data from the council's Journal Hub system and the Tactran Enable system. Commuters enter their start and end points into the app for recommendations based on current route information. Each route lists the estimated trip length, cost, and emissions. GOSEStran can be expanded for future services like the planned on-demand responsive bus route. This project received funding from Transport Scotland's MaaS Investment Fund.

Hamilton, ON collaborates with Communauto on Free-Floating CarShare Pilot Program

Communauto has operated round-trip carshares - or trips starting and ending at the same spot - in Hamilton for more than a decade. This pilot offers 25 shareable vehicles for one-way trips. Drivers reserve free-floating carshares through the Communauto app with 30 minutes of free driving for new users. Pricing for Communauto vehicles is $0.41 CAD per minute and $10 CAD per hour. Pilot vehicles can leave the 12-kilometer pilot zone but need to be returned to any FLEX Zone spot.

The city of València is partnering with Abertis Mobility Services to launch a urban tolling pilot project using intelligent traffic management technology. Ready! by MATA offers on-demand transportation in three zones during a one-year pilot. Commuters request rides on the TransLoc app or by phone Monday through Saturday. MATA vans hold up to eight passengers with each pick-up completed within 20 minutes of request. Rides are free during the pilot with plans to charge standard bus fares in the future. This pilot serves different zones than the Groove On-Demand pilot operating in downtown Memphis.

Evere, BCR is asking residents to install Telraam boxes in their homes to analyze traffic patterns

The Municipality of Evere partnered with Beliris, STIB, Schaerbeek, and Brussels-Mobility to install hundreds of Telraam traffic analysis boxes. The Telraam boxes analyze traffic patterns such as the number and speed of pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles in order to monitor the impact of worksites. The municipality has launched a call for candidates to find property owners and tenants willing to install Telraam boxes in their homes to map neighborhood mobility patterns.
