Cook County, IL tax on firearms and ammunition
En curso
Cook County passed a $25 tax on firearms and a per-cartridge tax on centerfire and rimfire ammunition. The tax was designed to make it more difficult for residents to purchase guns and the revenue collected goes toward combating gun violence. The "Guns Save Life" non-profit is challenging the tax in court by arguing that it violates Second Amendment protections. The Illinois Supreme Court will decide whether the tax is unconstitutional later this year.
