Cheshire West and Chester, GB improve cycling and walking with online interactive mapping

Community Input

Idéation

Cheshire West and Chester Council brought their cycling and walking project online to gather input from more of their community. With surveys and interactive mapping, over 1000 pins have been placed on the map from residents identifying ideas and needs for pedestrian path improvements. Using rich media, Council informed residents on progress throughout the consultation process.

Cheshire West and Chester Council launched its 'Walk. Ride. Thrive.' campaign to encourage more people to enjoy a summer of active travel. The borough has seen a dramatic fall in traffic volume and air pollution during the coronavirus pandemic, with walking and cycling playing an increasingly important role in people's lives. Continuing to use these active modes of transport will also support the ambition to be a carbon neutral borough. The Council secured £161,000 from the Department for Transport to help keep people walking and cycling in a safe way during our recovery from the coronavirus crisis. Click here to see how your contributions are already making a difference. The Council will be seeking to secure the more significant second phase of funding over the coming weeks to support more permanent cycling and walking infrastructure in the borough. Future schemes will again be guided by your ideas and suggestions so please continue to share your views on improvements you would like to see in your community to encourage more people to walk and cycle. We still want your views on: What challenges you face when walking and cycling in your local area How we could improve things quickly. Share your ideas with us on our interactive mapping tool. Alternatively, you can send us your suggestions privately via our online survey. Whilst we will not be able to satisfy all requests, we will update you on how projects are progressing through this page.
