New York, NY creates comprehensive view of local road use with trial of Viva's Near Miss sensors
New York, NY Viva Near Miss Local Road Use Trial
The city's Department of Transportation manually gathers traffic counts at random intersections throughout the year. Viva's AI-powered technology replaces these counts at 12 intersections during the pilot. Near Miss discerns nine types of transportation including scooters, buses, and pedestrians. Real-time data on travel speed, near-miss events, and travel paths are sent to an internal dashboard. City officials will use Near Miss results when evaluating traffic safety and street design efforts.
