Helsinki, FI conducts AI sensor pilot to enhance e-scooter safety

Helsinki conducted a six-month Safety Sense pilot project to enhance e-scooter safety by using AI sensors to detect risks proactively, rather than relying solely on official crash reports. Key findings revealed that risks were highest in areas with complex infrastructure, during peak weekday commuting hours (especially mornings), and in wet weather conditions, where harsh braking increased by about 1.7 times and swerving more than doubled.
