Grand Rapids, MI evaluates self-driving shuttles with Autonomous Vehicle Initiative
Grand Rapids, MI Autonomous Vehicle Intitiative
Grand Rapids collaborated with local company May Mobility to operate four Lexus all-electric shuttles on local streets. Self-driving shuttles cover both sides of the Grand River on their programmed route, offering easy comparisons to existing transit options. Each shuttle holds up to five passengers and an attendant to oversee the vehicle's operations. Commuters can hop on shuttles for free Monday through Friday.

The pilot's service area was expanded by one mile and an on-demand feature was added to the May Mobility app after initial success. Self-driving vehicles were outfitted with UV light treatment systems and partitions during a five-month pause due to COVID-19.
