A six-month pilot used Colu's civic engagement app to encourage resident purchases at locally owned businesses. Colu users earned $1 in digital City Coins for every $1 of goods and services purchased at participating companies. City Coins were redeemable for discounted prices at these businesses, thereby keeping money in the local economy. Chula Vista and Colu built off the pilot's results by creating the Choose Chula rewards app.
