Wake County, NC launched a Nurse Navigation Program to handle non life-threatening emergency calls
Wake County, NC non life-threatening 911 nurse program
Wake County Emergency Medical Services partnered with Global Medical Response to launch the Nurse Navigation Program. Through this program, 911 operators will reroute callers with non life-threatening emergencies to a nurse navigator in order to reduce the burden on an overwhelmed 911 call system. These nurse navigators will determine a caller's needs, provide medical advice, connect callers to their primary-care providers, connect callers to transportation services to a clinic, etc.
