Derby City Council, GB evaluated the potential for a smart street sign detection system
Derby City Council, GB Smart Street Sign Detection System
The city worked with Vaisala and ISS on a dash-mounted camera to capture road signs while in motion. A city inspector's vehicle gathered the data for analysis by Computer Vision software. Computer Vision created a map of road signs that can be used to identify missing or damaged signs in the future. Derby City Council hopes to replicate this process with existing cameras on waste collection vehicles for improved sign maintenance.
