A novel coronavirus (nCoV) is a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans. COVID-19 is a respiratory illness that can spread from person to person just like a cold or the flu. Transmission of the virus can include: Prevention There is currently no vaccine to prevent coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus. The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person: It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads. Below are some steps you can do to prevent illness Symptoms Contact your health care provider if you are experiencing any of the symptoms below. Patients with COVID-19 have experienced mild to severe respiratory illness. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure. Montgomery County and the CDC recommends calling ahead to your health care provider before seeking treatment. This will ensure proper preparation by the facility and help lessen the exposure to those already there. Call your doctor if you develop symptoms and have been in close contact with a person known to have COVID-19, or have recently traveled from an area with widespread/ongoing cases.
