Norfolk, VA real-time flooded road data mobile app
The city of Norfolk partnered with Waze to pilot a mobile app that uses FloodMapp forecasting technology to provide drivers with real-time information about flooded roads. FloodMapp mixes data about rainfall, tides, and rivers into a flood inundation model which is then GIS-layered with the Norfolk road network and sent to Waze. Waze users receive pop-up icons and audio alerts warning them about flooded streets and are automatically rerouted after being given a chance to validate the alerts.
