Darlington Borough Council, GB introduces smart waste bins as part of zero-tolerance litter policy

Darlington Borough Council, GB Smart Waste Bins Litter

Complete

The council added 10 Bigbelly smart bins to areas with heavy pedestrian traffic. Bigbelly bins use solar-powered compactors to compress waste, creating eight times the capacity of a standard bin. Council staffers complete fewer bin collections and free up time for more complex tasks. Bigbelly bins remain part of the borough's waste collection scheme after a private enforcement contract was discontinued.
