The City of Ekurhuleni deployed over 80 walk-in containers to combat illegal dumping. Each of these containers are partitioned into three compartments: a recycling area, a waste area, and an office space. These containers were designed to provide residents of informal settlements with an easily accessible waste facility and recycling sorting station. The containers are managed by the Department of Management Service and serviced by development contractors.
