Esquimalt, BC considers gasification facility in effort to divert organic waste from landfills

Esquimalt, BC Gasification Facility Landfill Organic Waste

Planning

The proposed plant would turn solid, food, and yard waste from local residents into valuable byproducts. Esquimalt could generate energy and biochar for soil conditioning from waste typically thrown into landfills. A fully contained gasification process minimizes emissions and odors without considerable long-term costs. Town leaders used a survey, webinar, and extensive online engagement to inform early decisions about the plant.
