Gainesville, FL increases resident access to healthy food with Edible Groves Project

Gainesville, FL Edible Groves Project Healthy Food Access

Complete

A coordinated effort by six city departments created groves in Fred Cone Park and Smokey Bear Park. Native trees bearing oranges, mulberries, and other fruits are freely accessible to residents in need of fresh fruits. Each grove includes a sign with a QR code that leads to an informational page on the project. Gainesville plans another grove on Southwest 40th Boulevard in the near future with all groves maintained by volunteers and city workers.
