Ruapehu District Council, NZ installed 11 solar-powered "Big Belly" compacting rubbish smart bins

Ruapehu District Council, NZ solar-powered smart rubbish bin

Complete

Ruapehu District Council installed solar-powered "Big Belly" compacting rubbish bins at 11 local high-traffic sites. The "Big Belly" bins hold five times the volume of standard 60 litre rubbish bins. The Council placed the "Big Belly" bins alongside recycling bins to reduce the amount of recyclable material compacted with waste. The compactors automatically alert the operator when they need servicing and the data can be checked online at any time.
