Somerville, MA evaluates SMART Box technology for integration into Rodent Control Program

Somerville, MA SMART Box Rodent Control Program

In Progress

The six-month pilot measures the effectiveness of a non-toxic alternative to conventional traps. City officials selected four public locations for the installation of 50 SMART Boxes by Modern Pet Services. Each SMART Box uses motion and temperature sensors to activate electrical shocks. Exterminated rodents are placed in a separate container so that the trap can be reset. Sensor data are sent to city staffers for a comprehensive picture of rodent populations.
