The council originally invested in BlueMAC equipment for the Roughmute Recycling Centre to handle its own recyclables. A rotating screen, eddy current separator, and baler create packed recyclables ready for resale. Fluctuations in the global recyclables market led council officials to take on private sector contracts for sorting and baling. Falkirk Council also handles waste baling for Moray Council and plastic processing for Dundee City Council to produce extra revenue.
