Townsville, QLD Food Organic Waste Recycling Pilot

In Progress

City officials selected 1,500 households in four suburbs for the one-year pilot. Participants in Burdell and Idalia gather their food and yard waste for weekly collection. Heatley and Vincent households place collected garden organics out for pickup every other week. Each participant receives a dedicated bin, kitchen caddy, and liners along with instructional materials. Ongoing surveys and workshops will shape how Townsville diverts the 46% of waste consisting of compostable materials.
