Valdosta, GA improved traffic monitoring and emergency operations with citywide signal upgrades
Valdosta, GA smart traffic signal improvements
The city of Valdosta utilized Georgia Smart Communities Challenge grant funding and community research support to pilot a smart traffic management system. The pilot involved connecting all 128 city traffic signals to upgrades within the traffic control operations center. These improvements allowed the city to test new signal timings, implement Emergency Vehicle Signal Pre-Emption for firetrucks, and integrate the TravelSafely mobile app to notify drivers of approaching emergency vehicles.
