The council established a goal of covering approximately 2% of local land with forest canopy by 2030. Forest for Cornwall will protect existing trees and use targeted placement in parks, public areas, and farms to spread the program's benefits. New tree placement draws on a woodland opportunity map created by the University of Exeter. Once completed, the new canopy will capture 38,000 tons of carbon dioxide - or 1% of Cornwall's greenhouse gases - each year.
