Hastings District Council, NZ solar-powered smart bin trial

In Progress

Hastings District Council is trialing solar-powered Big Belly Bins in three of its busiest parks. The smart bins compact non-recyclable rubbish and alert staff via a mobile app when they are nearly full. The Council branded the smart bins with artwork from the local anti-litter programme to increase awareness. The bins can hold approximately ten times the amount of rubbish of a standard public bin. The Council will analyze the bin data after two months to measure the success of the trial.
