Redland, QLD tests floating wetlands on Sovereign Waters Lake in bid for improved water quality
Redland, QLD Floating Wetlands Improved Lake Quality
In Progress
Two artificial platforms with native wetland plants are stationed on the lake. Plants on each platform grow into the water without taking root. Floating wetlands absorb nutrients and sediment that contribute to low water quality. The 10-month pilot evaluates plant growth and root density along with the impacts of floating wetlands on river levels. Council officials may expand the floating wetlands program to other waterways with a successful pilot.
