Santa Cruz installed a locked collection box on Trescony Street for selected residents to place their food scraps. One hundred participants completed intake surveys, received the box code, and learned how to separate kitchen waste. The trial began in fall 2020 with a scheduled conclusion in December 2021. City officials will use pilot data to inform bin selection and messaging for a citywide curbside collection program starting in 2022.
