The City of Edinburgh Council, GB turns Saughton Park into the UK's first eco-powered park
The City of Edinburgh Council, GB Saughton Park Eco-Powered
City officials added a micro-hydro generation system to the park's portion of the Water of Leith. This system produces electricity for two ground-source heat pumps. Buildings throughout the 48-acre park draw on these pumps to control temperatures. Micro-hydro generation saves Edinburgh £18,000 per year in energy costs that can be used for park programs. The Saughton Park project also produces 90 tons per year less in emissions than the previous electrical system.
