West Springfield, MA provides connectivity options to residents with municipal broadband pilot

West Springfield, MA Municipal Broadband Pilot

Planning

The town council approved a pilot of a gigabit network in four neighborhoods with approximately 1,000 homes. Whip City Fiber will install connectivity equipment on utility poles rather than underground for reduced project costs. Participating households pay Westfield Gas + Electric for monthly internet access during the pilot. A successful trial of gigabit service could lead West Springfield to create its own utility and expand the network to all town residents.
