The Minneapolis City Council approved $1 million in federal ARPA funds for specialists in 15 northside districts. Participants receive 180 hours of classroom training and one year of on-the-job training on issues specific to their neighborhoods. Project partners like SEIU Local 26 and NEXT Global Security train apprentices in areas from mediation to mental health first aid. Community Safety Specialists earn $23 per hour plus benefits after completing their apprenticeships.
