Wigan Metropolitan Borough Council created the "TechMates" digital mentor service to help vulnerable residents remain connected during the COVID-19 pandemic. The TechMates service targets isolated residents lacking the necessary digital skills to utilise technology and access support services. Volunteers and staff from TechMates provide one-to-one basic digital support over the phone to help these residents browse the internet, communicate with friends and family, and access online services.
