Denver, CO supports evidence-based responses to emerging issues with Snowflake data platform

Denver undertook a multi-year process to improve services by removing data siloes between departments. Implementation of Snowflake's data hub was combined with new data standards from the Technology Services team for maximum impact. This central resource was first used for Denver's responses to opioid abuse and impact estimates for changes in solid-waste services. Future plans for artificial intelligence integration will increase the hub's role in municipal decision-making.

Coquitlam, BC adopts govService Amanda by Granicus for more efficient development plan reviews

Coquitlam previously relied on emails and spreadsheets for lengthy manual plan reviews. The city added the govService Amanda platform as part of its Development Application Process Review (DAPR) initiative for efficient internal processes. The platform is a central resource for plan documents, comments, communications, and reports accessible by decision-makers. Automated reviews use city ordinances and best practices to identify potential issues early in the process.

Hobsons Bay, VIC H2.0 Performance creates unified system for staff reviews and service delivery

Council leaders identified a disconnect between the city's priorities and day-to-day work in its current IT systems. This gap also created staff frustration about how their tasks fit in with long-term goals. The H2.0 Performance dashboard presents daily activities, performance metrics, and professional goals for each employee. The switch from patchwork solutions encourages cross-department collaboration and more efficient use of public resources.

Hiring managers previously used telephone interviews for their initial screening of job applicants. Arlington County selected Spark Hire to broaden its candidate pool and expedite hiring processes. The Spark Hire platform supports one-way and group interviews for more in-depth conversations than phone calls. Additional features of this platform include full-length recordings, live support, and in-browser use without software downloads.

The Côtes d’Armor Department wants a collaborative maintenance

The Côte d’Armor Department equipped with urbest in order to improve the quality of employees issues processing because the numerous communication channels used before (mail, phone paper) didn’t allow anymore efficient real estate maintenance. Heating, plumbing, electricity, room layout roads, all issues are now directly sent to the maintenance team thanks to urbest. Issues are processed transparently with employees and the maintenance team can quickly get the job done.

Warrington Borough Council, GB supports local creative practitioners with new database

Experienced designers, artists, and creators fill out a council survey for inclusion in the database. The Creative Practitioners Database enables participant communications about advice, mentoring, and potential collaborations. Council officials promote potential commissions, project funds, and cultural events on this free resource. Database members will also be asked for their input on the council's cultural policy.

Bloomington, IN partners with Palo Alto as Sibling Cities

Palo Alto Mayor and Bloomington Mayor establish a Sibling Cities relationship, the first domestic relationship of its kind between United States cities. The relationship seeks to foster community building, further goodwill, and enhance civic dialogue and public policy discussions in the two cities through a new organization, Sibling Cities USA. Local committees will form in each city to connect community organizations and build programs to expand public awareness and generate impact.

Bloomington, IN pioneers Economic Stabilization & Recovery Task Force (ESRTF)

To address rising concerns during 2020 quickly, Mayor Hamilton designated an ESRTF. The ESRTF worked to engage partners across Monroe county and the region to develop relief efforts in response to rising unemployment statistics. In particular, the ESRTF recommended the City of Bloomington provide wraparound funding and non-funding support for employers and individuals. Ongoing collaboration across our region, and reaching employers while they adapt amidst global challenges is the ongoing focus.

Bloomington, IN starts interdepartmental jobs board

How might we better distribute the work to be done across all departments instead of mandating that the work of one department be done only by its own team? The City deiced to use Trello, a platform already in use, to advertise discrete tasks, indicate when a task had been claimed, and also indicate when a task had been completed. The project took less than 3 days to implement. Because this tool leveraged technology with which the departments were already familiar, adoption was quick and easy.

Bahía Blanca, BA encourages agricultural innovations during the Agrotón 2021 competition

City officials invited individuals and teams of up to six members from Argentina to the two-day event. Each entrant was tasked with developing a solution to the challenges facing agricultural producers in the region. A panel of judges evaluates proposed projects based on their long-term sustainability and traceability through the supply chain. The winning project receives 200,000 Argentine pesos with a 130,000-peso prize for the runner-up.

Hasselt, VLI aims for Ecological, Regional and Fair food industry with Hasselt is our ERF campaign

Residents post their ideas for sustainable food projects on the city's crowdsourcing platform. Each project is open for likes, shares, and comments by neighbors that pave the way for neighborhood collaboration. Hasselt hosted two co-creation workshops to identify opportunities for project financing and growth. Project leaders who completed these workshops were eligible to seek 5,000 euros during a month-long participatory budget round.

Madrid, MD converts its public design lab into a collaborative toy studio for Juguetoria program

City-owned Medialab-Prado asks for innovative toy concepts from engineers, teachers, and creative residents. Five projects will be selected for further development within the FabLab design studio. Participants collaborate with lab staffers and design experts on functional prototypes for public play sessions during the Christmas holiday. Final versions of these toys will be on display in the National Museum of Decorative Arts in 2022.
