Cuyahoga County, OH considers proposal to form a $10 million Opioid Innovation Fund

Cuyahoga County is considering a proposal to form a $10 million Opioid Innovation Fund to support and test new strategies for combatting the opioid epidemic. The money, from the county’s $117.5 million in opioid settlement funds, would be invested in promising technology and systems for preventing or treating opioid addiction. The programs could be developed and administered by public health systems and only 5-10% of the funds would be used on operational costs.

Los Angeles County, CA "LA50K" harm reduction initiative reduces opioid overdoses with naloxone

Los Angeles County launched the "LA50K" harm reduction initiative to distribute 50,000 boxes of naloxone to normalize its use as treatment for combating the opioid overdose epidemic. The initiative involved distributing naloxone to vulnerable residents through community groups, the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, the Department of Health Services, and even creating free naloxone vending machines in county jails.

Aiken County, SC partners with Aiken Center for Addiction Services to map overdose hot spots

Aiken County is partnering with the Aiken Center for Addiction Services to identify overdose hot spots with new mapping technology. The Aiken County Coroner's Office, the Aiken County Sheriff's Office, and the Aiken Center submit real-time overdose data to the Overdose Detection Mapping Application Program (ODMAP). Data entered includes the approximate location of the overdose, the date and time of the overdose, whether the overdose was fatal or nonfatal and medication administered.

Paterson, NJ is expanding medically assisted treatment services to residents with opioid addictions

The City of Paterson is proposing a new program that would expand medically assisted treatment (MAT) options to residents struggling with opioid addiction. The program would provide on-demand MAT onboarding and prescriptions to appropriate patients within 90 minutes at any time. The MAT proposal earned Paterson the title of "Champion City" as a finalist in the 2021 Global Mayors Challenge.
