Aurora, ON integrates environmental protection into new projects with Green Development Standards

The Green Development Standards (GDS) require new development permits to hit targets in five areas: Building Materials, Complete Communities, Ecology, Energy, and Water. Each applicant must meet all Tier 1 targets and some Tier 2 targets for approval. Examples of Tier 1 targets include EV charging infrastructure, permeable sidewalks, and native topsoil reuse. Aurora created a GDS guide and a scoring system in its online application system to assist applicants.
