Burbank, CA Homeless Street Outreach Program proactively helps vulnerable individuals
The city of Burbank and the Burbank Police Department’s Mental Health Evaluation Team partnered with local non-profits to develop a comprehensive Homeless Street Outreach Program which proactively assists vulnerable individuals in the community. The city expanded the program by partnering with the Downtown Burbank Property Based Business Improvement District to deploy StreetPlus security teams to provide citywide social services outreach and referrals to community organizations.

The community-owned utility company Burbank Water and Power launched the ONEBurbank program in order to maximize the city's extensive fiber-optic infrastructure. The ONEBurbank program provides reliable high-speed internet to local businesses, government facilities, and public schools. The revenue generated by the program directly offsets the electric and water rate increases that would otherwise be paid by residential and commercial ratepayers.

Burbank first added dishwasher and water heater plumbing permits to the portal. Additional Building & Safety permits ranging from HVAC systems to windows are planned for future updates. Approved applicants receive digital permits in as little as five minutes without the need for in-person consultations. Digital building permits increase the functionality of a Citizen Access Portal with existing services like inspection scheduling and a property information database.
