Canmore, AB reduces food waste sent to the landfill with Food Waste Collection Pilot
Canmore, AB Food Waste Collection Pilot Reduce Waste
The town distributed dedicated food waste bins and user's guides to 2,000 households. Participants bring their bins to five collection sites throughout Canmore. Collected food waste is sent to a composting facility that produces fertilizer and soil conditioner. The Food Waste Collection Pilot diverts 800 kilograms of food waste per day from the landfill. Canmore plans to expand this pilot into schools and businesses following an expansion of its waste management center.
