Each participant records animal sightings, agricultural activity, and weather patterns in the Climate Diary app developed at the University of Prince Edward Island. Diary entries are translated into plot points on a publicly available map. Local officials and researchers will shape future climate change adaptation efforts with Climate Trackers data.

Charlottetown, PEI brainstorms ways to achieve sustainable growth goals during Virtual Hackathon
The one-day event resulted in presentations by 24 students from the University of Prince Edward Island. City departments provided maps, reports, and guidance to teams from multiple disciplines as they developed creative ideas for sustainable growth. A three-member panel of city staffers heard a five-minute presentation and received a written report from each team. The Virtual Hackathon generated new ideas while connecting students to public policy development.

City officials worked with Davey Resource Group to gather tree data. This comprehensive inventory found more than 11,000 trees on city streets and parks. A public map lists the species, trunk diameter, and street for each tree. Map users discover the estimated ecological benefits of trees including sequestered emissions and gallons of water saved. City departments provide daily updates from field workers that inform tree plantings and maintenance.

Charlottetown, PEI creates Natural Assets Inventory for clearer picture of natural resources
The inventory captures the current condition of every forest, green space, and waterway within city limits. City staffers and Municipal Natural Assets Initiative are also assessing the public benefits and long-term needs of these assets. The Natural Assets Inventory will start as an internal resource with a public-facing portal under consideration. Charlottetown officials use the inventory to achieve a balance between ecological, community, and development considerations.

The Food Asset Map will present Charlottetown's various food resources in a single resource. Map users can learn more about nutritionists, community gardens, stores, and other food security assets. The interactive map allows the user to narrow their choices by ward and click on asset icons for additional information. City officials are using a community food questionnaire and four virtual feedback sessions to finalize the map for 2021.
