Devon, AB helps residents navigate winter and COVID-19 isolation with the Check ‘n’ Chat Program
The five-month pilot connects town residents aged 18 and older with trained volunteers. Check ‘n’ Chat offers two free phone conversations of up to 20 minutes per week. Volunteers are trained by Family and Community Support Services to conduct casual conversations that ease social isolation. This training also identifies situations requiring escalation to emergency services and mental health providers.

Devon, AB encourages socially distanced and remote activities with 28-Day Connection Challenge
Participants in the challenge were tasked with documenting at least 30 minutes of interaction per day for four weeks. Qualifying activities ranged from distanced games with neighbors to video chats with friends. A completed form sent to Devon Family and Community Support Services served as an entry into a $200 CAD gift card drawing. The 28-Day Connection Challenge increased points of contact among Devon residents to improve mental wellness during COVID-19.
