East Renfrewshire Council, GB pilots smart gritting system for improved road safety during winter
East Renfrewshire Council, GB Smart Gritting System
Road sensors designed by CENSIS at the University of Glasgow were installed on the outlying streets of Barrhead. Each sensor feeds surface temperature data to the council's central dashboard. This real-time information combined with weather forecasts allows council staffers to preemptively treat roads. East Renfrewshire and CENSIS are developing a predictive gritting system that could be implemented throughout Scotland following a successful pilot.
