Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council created a new policy to reduce barriers to employment for veterans. Any qualified veteran applying for a job at Gateshead Council will now be guaranteed an interview. The Council hopes to set an example and encourages local employers to adopt a similar policy. The Council adopted this policy in an effort to address the disadvantages facing individuals that serve in the armed forces.
