Irvine, CA achieves community buy-in on climate change mitigation with Cool Block Program

Irvine, CA Cool Block Program Community Climate Change

In Progress

City officials worked with 25 local organizations to recruit 200 block leaders throughout Irvine. Each leader hosts regular meetings with interested households on their block using Cool Block resources. Meetings teach residents about disaster preparedness, food waste, water conservation, and other topics before setting individual goals. A pilot fund offers $1,000 grants and no-interest loans of up to $25,000 per applicant for home energy retrofits.
