The Kern County Fire Department contracted a drone service to conduct surveillance operations to detect illegal firework activity. The KCFD hosted a public demonstration of the process in which a drone is alerted to a flash of light in the air, calibrates the GPS location of the incident, and matches the coordinates with a parcel map to determine the property's owner.

Kern County, CA Sheriff's Office is limiting in-person 911 responses to reduce the spread of COVID

The Kern County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) announced that it will be limiting in-person responses to 911 calls in order to reduce the spread of COVID-19 infections. According the the KCSO, deputies will only be responding to specific 911 calls in-person such as an in-progress crimes or life-threatening emergencies. Residents are encouraged to use the KCSO online reporting system to report crimes that are not happening in real-time and deputies will take be taking information over the phone.
