Kingston upon Hull City Council, GB turns Stoneferry Road into a smart transportation corridor

City officials worked with Clearview Intelligence on solutions to cycling safety and infrastructure concerns. Road studs at five intersections detect passing cyclists and inform motorists using in-road lights. An over-height detection system turns sensor data into digital sign directions for freight vehicles approaching a low bridge. The partnership also yielded a Variable Message Sign network at 18 locations with real-time travel times and detours.

Kingston upon Hull City Council, GB pilots Sm@rt Technology traffic accessibility products

The Smart Cross touchless activation system was installed at two high-traffic intersections. Pedestrians move their hands under the devices for walk signals, which supports safe use by residents with disabilities. The one-month pilot also evaluates Smart Bus technology at a pair of bus stops. Bus riders download the Smart Bus app and scan a QR code at each stop for real-time route information. The app supports audio announcements of the stop's next three arrivals.
