Lancaster City Council, GB trials kitchen waste collection service in Heysham
The pilot offers free weekly collection of food waste to 1,000 participants in three areas of the town. Each household received a starter kit with a curbside bin, kitchen caddy, and compostable bags. Lancashire County Council collects and composts the waste rather than send it to landfills. City and county leaders developed the pilot in anticipation of national requirements for food waste diversion.
