Launceston, SA publishes Expressions of Interest call for e-scooter pilot with Hobart

The two councils are seeking a shared operator for a one-year micromobility pilot. The selected operator will handle day-to-day management and supply ridership data to council leaders. Participants will reserve e-scooters by app and travel in geofenced areas including roads with speed limits under 50 kilometers per hour. Launceston and Hobart included micromobility in recent transport plans for reduced congestion and emissions.

Launceston, SA turns years of LiDAR scans of city center into a Minecraft world

City staff produce three-dimensional models of development projects from LiDAR data. Multiple years of scans were translated into data for a Minecraft version of downtown Launceston. An initial version of the world was used during school visits to highlight the possibilities of city planning. Users of the Java and Education editions of the game can add, subtract, or change local streets and attractions like UTAS Stadium.
