Single-family households receive free collection kits for weekly pickups. The kit includes a kitchen bin, bin liners, and a locking outdoor container. Food waste is sent to an anaerobic digestion facility for conversion into bioenergy. Borough officials acquired dedicated trucks for the program so that food and yard waste aren't mixed. Hillingdon also offers free composting bins to divert the 44% of local landfill waste comprised of kitchen waste.
