The county commission approved a one-year pilot and awaits authorization by the Federal Aviation Administration. AFRS would equip and operate drones in partnership with the Public Safety Department. The proposed program deploys drones with medical supplies and equipment in response to 911 calls. Dispatchers instruct callers on how to use these items as emergency teams are in transit. If approved, the program would be the first of its kind in the United States.
