Mannheim, BW is piloting a smell-test program to identify COVID cases among schoolchildren

The City of Mannheim is piloting a smell-test program for schoolchildren during the COVID-19 pandemic. Students are administered a free smell test twice a week before the start of classes in which a QR code is scanned then scratched to release a scent. The students identify the smell and make a selection in a mobile app linked to the QR code. Because loss of smell is an early warning sign of a coronavirus infection any incorrect responses would lead to further testing.
