Mesa, AZ considers streetlight dimming project to reduce light pollution

Mesa, AZ Streetlight Dimming Project Light Pollution

Complete

Mesa's replacement of sodium vapor lights with LED bulbs opens the possibility for targeted dimming. The city council considered a $17 million plan to dim lights up to 45% at night using smart control nodes. LED streetlights are further adapted to localized lighting needs with amber bulbs and shields that funnel light toward streets. This plan draws on feedback and data from a one-month pilot in three neighborhoods.
